Firefighter suffers heat exhaustion while battling store fire

A firefighter had to be treated for heat exhaustion after a fire broke out at a Lexington business.

It happened at Eastside Stop Shop on Race Street around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters say the fire started in the back of the building. They told the owner the cause was electrical. There is some fire and heavy smoke damage throughout the building.

The fatigued firefighter was treated on the scene by paramedics and didn't have to go to the hospital.

Police closed Race Street between 3rd and 5th Streets during the fire. It is now back open.
