Lexington Police have arrested a man they say is behind a string of peeping tom reports near the downtown area. The cases stretch back several months.

Police charged 45-year-old Carey Ragan with voyeurism, criminal trespassing, and drug possession.

Police say Ragan was arrested outside an apartment on Broadway. They say he was peeping inside a woman's apartment at the time.

Just a few doors down from where police arrested Ragan, neighbors, many of them young Transylvania University students, say they can finally breathe a sigh of relief. "It was just scary knowing that he was that close," Transylvania senior Sarah Sams said, "Knowing people like that are just down the street is scary, so it's really nice to know we're safer a little bit now."

For months women throughout the area have lived in fear after several peeping tom incidents. "Especially just living with girls, you're always a better target, and so it creeps you out," Sams said.

Lexington Police say they're convinced Ragan is the serial peeping tom responsible for a string of peeping reports. In fact, the suspect has already served several days in jail after pleading guilty to a March voyeurism charge. At that time police say there wasn't enough evidence to tie him to other cases.
