An early start with art for successful pre-school development

Pre-School Students, two to four years of age, are invited to grab their adult for a fun and creative time in the Living Arts & Science Center’s new Family Fun Time Classes. Three sessions of three 90 minutes classes will be offered in October (Let’s Paint!), November (Let’s Sculpt!) and December (Let’s Make Gifts!) on Thursday mornings, 9:30 – 11:00 AM.

The classes will involve the parents and children in a variety of creative art experiences and will provide additional recipes and instructions for continued creative play at home.

Pre-Registration is required and can be made on-line at www.LASCLEX.org or by calling 859-252-5222.

As numerous studies indicate, arts experiences for pre-school students are a necessity as they play a central role in cognitive, motor, language, and social-emotional development. Arts-making activities with a variety of materials contribute to the child’s motor skills and eye-hand coordination as they manipulate paintbrushes, crayons, scissors and clay. Making art—and talking about it—provides opportunities to learn words for colors, shapes and actions and the tactile learning reinforces those concepts. Arts experiences strengthen problem-solving and critical-thinking skills as children make choices and selections on their own. And the shared experience with other children and with their family members builds self-esteem, an appreciation for others, and new ways of seeing the world around them.

As a life-long learning center, The Living Arts & Science Center provides numerous ways for children, teens, adults and families to participate in art and creative education. No-School Day Classes are provided for students in K - 8th grade, and classes for children, teens, adults and families are also available on Saturdays and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Additionally, monthly Discovery Night programs with guest artists and scientists are held on the first Thursday of each month.

The complete schedules and descriptions are available at www.LASCLEX.org. Advance registrations are required and can be made on-line or by calling 859-252-5222.
