He's been hailed an NFL great, but Dermontti Dawson, a former UK football star, is the recent victim of a struggling economy.

"It's a huge sign of the way things are right now, from all aspects of life, all different walks falling to hard economic times," says Danetta Ford Allen, the Auctioneer appointed to Dawson's bankruptcy auction.

After filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy earlier this year, Dawson's possessions will be auctioned off next week, from his 9,000 square foot home with a personal indoor shooting range to his cars, furniture and personal memorabilia.

"We've kept everything on a very business level, and I don't know about all the emotional ties that go along with it for him, but I'm sure it's difficult," says Allen.

Monday the auctioneer held the second of three open houses scheduled to give people a chance to see the items firsthand.

"People are going to want to get something that they can say belonged to Dermontti Dawson," says Chester Hager, a potential buyer.

It's a hard reality now giving some a peak inside the life of this former NFL star.

"I remember Dermontti when he played football, and I hate to see something like this happen to him," says Hager.

The auction will begin Monday, November 15 at 10:00 a.m. for the estate located at 24 Avenue of Champions in Nicholasville.

The auction for the personal items will begin that day at 1:00 p.m. at the Lexington Center, 430 West Vine Street in Lexington.
