Bon Appetit: Dates set for Lexington's second annual restaurant week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - From Southern comfort food to world cuisine, Lexington's restaurants plan to join forces again to serve up a week of summertime dining aimed at showcasing locally-owned restaurants.

"We have 57 independent restaurants already signed up for Restaurant Week 2014 compared to the 42 last year," said Connie Jo Miller of Group CJ, the marketing group and driving force behind the 2013 event. "Local restaurants do more than enhance the quality of life for those of us who live here - they attract tourism and they serve as a lure to companies who might be considering a move to Lexington. They are a big economic booster."

This year's event will be held from July 24 through August 2. BB&T Bank has joined as a lead sponsor with the Lexington Herald-Leader and WKYT onboard as media partners to promote the event.

As before, participating restaurants will offer $25 dinners.

"It was like a big Friday night every night from the moment it started to the moment it ended," said Don Wathen, owner and operater of Nick Ryan's, said about the 2013 event.

Organizers promise this year's menu will give food-lovers more choices, fun and promotion.

Heath Campbell, President of BB&T Kentucky, commented that Lexington Restaurant Week is a great way to celebrate the city's thriving, creative culinary scene.

"Our tremendous choice of restaurants is one of the many things that make Lexington one of those special places to live," said BB&T Kentucky President Heath Campbell. "These establishments, old and new, reflect the same spirit of innovation and enterprise that is making our city thrive. We score very high on the delicious scale."
