Busy Lexington park turns into crime scene after shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) Lexington police say a man was shot near a crowded park.

Police say a young man was shot in the lower back around 9 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lindberg Drive and Georgetown Street on the north side of Lexington.

This took place right across the street from Douglass Park which is where a vigil was being held for a crash victim around the exact same time.

Off duty officers were actually already on the scene when they heard five to six shots fired and quickly located the victim who had been shot once in the lower back.

Police are now searching for two men who they believe could be responsible for this shooting. Witnesses told Lexington police that the men were last seen wearing dark blue shorts and white t-shirts.

At this time, police are not sure if the shooters ran away or drove away after the incident. They say so far, they have not been able to locate any shell casings. Police also believe both men were armed and fired shots at the victim.

The victim was transported to UK Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. At this time police are not releasing the victims name or age.
