It happened on McMeekin Place in Lexington. The home is off Tates Creek Road, near the UK Campus.
The fire broke out just before one. Dozens of firefighters responded to the scene.
When crews first arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. It was a difficult battle for firefighters because the home is so large. Firefighters say they had pop up fires in eight or nine different areas of the home.
"Its almost like a commercial building it's so large," said Major Ed Davis.
He also said that getting hose lines to the back corners of the home proved to be difficult.
"They hang up. Two or three people trying to pull those hose lines. It's like trying to pull an elephant. Even though they don't look that big, they weigh a ton," said Davis.
The home belongs to established businessman Robert Langley.
Langley is the owner of Langley properties. He owns Lexington Green and purchased Joseph Beth Booksellers. He also owns restaurants.
No one was home when the fire broke out. Langley's assistant tells 27 NEWSFIRST that he was out of state.
