On April 30th of this year Lexington Police say a man stole more than $1500 worth of baby formula from the Walmart in Hamburg. They say there wasn't much to the crime, he simply loaded up the formula and then headed out past the register.
"He walked out without getting stopped at all," said Detective Robert Sarrantonio. "Walmart did a good job of sharing video with the other stores," said Sarrantonio.
Police say the man tried the same trick at other area stores, but was confronted and ran each time. Now police believe the shoplifter could be connected to a much bigger problem in our area. "There is a black market out there for baby formula. They'll go out and sell it in lower income neighborhoods," said Sarrantonio.
Investigators say the man took off in a Red Pontiac. They say they've tracked down the owner of the car, but he's not giving up any information on the suspect.
