Cruiser hit by car sparks chase that ends in crash

Lexington Police say a woman crashed on Newton Pike, at Main Street, after a brief chase.

Police say the woman was at a scene on Ashe Street, where officers were responding to a disorder. While there, interviewing the people involved, police say Taranita Black jumped into her friend's car, threw it in reverse, and hit the police officer's car. Police say Black barely missed the officer and the other individual involved.

The officer got into his car, and followed Black. Witnesses tell NEWSFIRST the car was traveling at a very high speed down Newton Pike and looked as if it was trying to pass traffic by getting up on the sidewalk. That's where police say Black lost control and slammed into a telephone pole.

When the officer approached her car, Police say Black was seen putting drug paraphernalia in her mouth. The officer says he had to break the window with his hand and use his taser to get Black in custody. She was taken to the hospital, and police say she will face several charges.

The officer involved, Ricky Lynn, sustained minor injuries.
