LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It's a white-out versus Big Blue Nation this weekend, as the wintry blast looks to hit Lexington on game day. Still 5-year-old Nathan Thurman can't hide his excitement, and really neither can his dad.
"This is Nathan's first game that we're taking him to. We're pretty excited about that," answered Shane Thurman, of Somerset.
With the winter weather threatening driving conditions, Nathan's parents decided this was a can't-miss-opportunity and made the trip tonight to be ready for the game.
"We were worried that the roads would be bad on the way up here and we might not make it after we bought the tickets. So we decided, kind of last minute, to go ahead and come on up here tonight," continued Thurman.
Nathan thinks his mom and dad made the right choice.
"Yeah," he said through a tooth-less grin.
The Thurman's are not alone. Other Downtown Lexington hotels say guests have been calling in and looking to bump up reservations from Saturday to Friday night. Unfortunately for many, the hotels were too booked up to accommodate.
The game is set for 1:30 but plenty of action will take place beforehand, just to get fans in the door. The Lexington Center says their staff will be prepared with salt and snow removal equipment to make sure parking and entries are safe for fans.
Not much can stop Big Blue Nation from a home game, apparently. And speaking of the game, the only thing better than going to the game in Nathan's mind is a, "Kentucky Win."
He's been coached by mom and dad, but he's ready for Rupp Arena.
