Following UK's victory over Baylor, fans headed to Blue Grass Airport to welcome the Wildcats home. Around 500 people were there when UK's flight from Atlanta landed.
The game had barely ended before UK fans started making their way to the airport to prepare the welcoming party.
Alex Buley may be the one fan who walked away from his television with five minutes left in the game, but he still wasn't the first person to arrive at Blue Grass Airport to welcome home the Wildcats. That honor goes to Coleman Marshall. "First one here at the airport," Marshall said, "I'm the winner."
As the team's plane landed, the crowd united. "No matter fans, performers, other athletes, everyone supports them," UK baton twirler Jayna Kubuske said, "and everyone wants them to do well."
As traditions go, the welcome home from the Elite Eight has become an essential rite of passage, but some fans are still open to mixing it up. "I was going to do a mohawk," Buley explained pointing out his completely buzzed scalp, "but the guy who did the mohawk made it crooked, so I had to shave all my hair off because I usually paint it blue every year we go to the Final Four, so this year I might just do it all blue. Who knows?"
With one more trip to go, fans promise that the next welcome home will be an even bigger celebration.
