Former teacher facing sexual abuse charges

A former Fayette County teacher has been charged with sexual abuse.

Court documents show Jason Thompson, 31, is accused of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree sodomy involving a 13-year-old boy.

The Fayette County School Superintendent, Tom Shelton, confirms with WKYT that Thompson taught at Leestown Middle School. Shelton says Thompson resigned in 2011.

Police were contacted about the alleged sexual abuse on July 12. Court documents state that the abuse happened in the summer of 2009 on two separate occasions with the same 13-year-old boy. Thompson is accused of inappropriately touching the thirteen year old and engaging in oral sex with the teen at his Lexington home.

Shelton says the teen was not one of Thompson's students at Leestown Middle School. FCPS goes on to say they have received two other allegations separate from the charges Jason Thompson is currently facing.

Aside from being a former middle school teacher, Thompson is a well-known Zumba instructor.

"I'm just really sad. All I have to say is lots of prayer for everyone involved," says fellow Zumba instructor, Cathya Franko.

Franko describes Thompson as a spiritual guy with a good personality,"I really feel for him. The children especially. I'm a mother myself. I really hope this is speculation. I still don't want to believe all of these things."

Thompson is expected to appear in court for these sexual abuse charges on Thursday.
