Lexington Police are looking for help from the public today to help piece together a serious accident that happened last night on the Legacy Trail involving a car and pedestrian.
Police say Keith Todd hit Penelope Bentley with his Mercedes while she was walking the trail with a friend. She was hit from behind and her friend said they had no idea it was coming.
Todd, a former officer with the Lexington Division of Police, is charged with DUI and second-degree assault. He was last employed with the police department in 2010.
Police say Todd cooperated with officers and there was not any kind of pursuit before or after the accident.
Bentley was taken to UK Hospital with serious injuries. Hospital staff told 27 Newsfirst she was no longer listed as a patient there.
