LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It was the start of something exciting, that's how Becky Coppola describes the new business venture she and her new friend Angela Hockensmith were about to take on. It's called "Chocolate Discovery," and they host chocolate tasting parties.

"She and I had become pretty close over the last six or eight weeks working on her business," described Coppola, adding they were excited for what the future held.

The two were working towards a chocolate tasting party that Hockensmith was going to observe on Tuesday, October 1st. The plan, Coppola said was for Hockensmith to be ready to take on the task of going solo in November.

The morning of September 20th changed all of that, and also changed Coppola's life.

"I was late for my appointment with Angela that morning at the shop," the friend said she called and left Hockensmith a message on her phone, she even texted and sent a Facebook message.

She never got a response, and when she got to the Danville shop she learned why as a nightmare played out before her. Days later Coppola knows that she likely could've been caught in the middle of the shooting if her morning had gone as scheduled.

"I've let that go through my mind many, many times over the last five days, and I just know that God was with me," she professed.

While this is no easy story for Coppola to tell, she tries to be strong because that's what her friend would want.

"I know Angela would want me to be strong and to continue with my business, so I'm doing this in her honor."

Now Coppola has a plan, on Tuesday, October 1st, the same day that was supposed to be for Hockensmith to study it will now be a day to benefit the Hockensmith's loved ones.

"The fundraiser is where I want the most people to come out and show support, as well, (because) the family will be there," said Coppola who plans to give all of her sales proceeds, through October 5th, to the family to help with the children and the funeral expenses.

The event will be held at the Bob Evans in Somerset, and it will start at 6:30 p.m.
