LEXINGTON, KY – Home Builders Care, the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association of Lexington (HBAL), is proud to announce the recipient of the HBC Disabled Veteran’s Home is Kenyata Johnson. The ground breaking ceremony will be held Monday, February 20, at 10:00 a.m., at 464 Shropshire Avenue, which is located in the Equestrian View neighborhood. The home will be built at 401 Cunningham Lane, but due to the recent rainy weather, the ceremony will take place at another location on Shropshire Avenue.
Mr. Johnson is a single father of twin girls, Kamia and Kamiya, and served the United States in the Marines from 1998-2005.
Mr. Johnson was deployed through two hardship tours and a humanitarian tour during his service. He is currently attending college full time and pursuing his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. It is Mr. Johnson’s aspiration to work with the VA at the end of his degree as a Vocational Counselor where he will help transition veterans from active duty to either the college or working civilian world.
“Home Builders Care is proud to help provide a home for the Johnson family and hope that all of our members can help with this process,” Todd Johnson, HBAL Executive Director said. “We hope to have a great crowd to welcome the Johnson family!”
“When HBC announced this project in November 2011, we had no idea how great the response was going to be,” he explained. “This has been a great way to thank a truly deserving veteran, and will provide affordable housing for Mr. Johnson and his family.”
