LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say they're investigating an alleged crime against a child in Lexington.
Around two Thursday morning police were called to Benton Place in reference to a possible child abuse.
When officers arrived at the scene the homeowner claimed that a 12-year-old female arrived at her home, and said she had been assaulted in Marlboro Park by a male suspect.
According to the girl, she was at home when a male suspect entered her room and forced her to leave with him. The girl claims the man threatened her and her family physical harm if she didn't come with him.
The victim says she left with him and was taken to Marlboro Park, where she says the suspect assaulted her. The victim says she was able to run away and fled to a neighbor's house on Benton Place.
Rhonda Moffit is the homeowner that took the girl in and called police. She says, "She was very traumatized. and she couldn't really talk. all she kept saying was the man. and i brought her in and comforted her and called the police basically."
The girl was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Canine units were called in to the scene, but they were unable to establish a track in the park.
Police released a statement saying, "The Division of Police takes all accusations of crimes against children seriously, and is diligently investigating this situation; which appears to be an isolated incident".
