God's Pantry in Lexington is getting set to distribute Thanksgiving meals to families in need ahead of the holiday.
The Sharing Thanksgiving program is a massive operation. Row upon row of boxes, filled with food, have been packed by volunteers and are ready to go out to families in need.
In all, 5,400 boxes are set to be given out. Each box includes a turkey, ten pounds of potatoes and sides.
All of this work in is happening the middle of an already bustling holiday season. The pantry's regular operation feeds thousands of families.
"We purchase this food for this program, it's a big expense but it's something extra beyond what we do for our clients," said Program Director Danielle Tussey.
They are still accepting donations at God's Pantry. $40 can feed a family of eight with a holiday meal. They will begin distributing the boxes on Monday and Tuesday.
