MOORE, Okla. (WKYT/AP) - Governor Steve Beshear has ordered flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff as a show of respect for the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes.

Gov. Beshear says the flags will remained lowered until sunset on Friday.

Authorities in Oklahoma say 24 people, including two infants, are confirmed to have died in Monday's EF-5 twister that hit the town of Moore. Six adults remain unaccounted for.

The extent of damage is becoming clearer today. Officials say the tornado destroyed or damaged as many as 13,000 homes, and that it may have caused $2 billion in overall damage.

The monstrous tornado barreled through the Oklahoma City suburb, demolishing an elementary school and reducing homes to piles of rubble. The disaster zone stretches more than 17 miles and the tornado was on the ground for 40 minutes.

President Barack Obama is planning to visit Oklahoma on Sunday to see the damage and meet with survivors and first responders.
