LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The case against a man charged in a deadly hit-and-run accident is moving forward.

A grand jury will now decide if there's enough evidence against Angel Meija to send the case to trial. Meija is facing several charges, including murder and wanton endangerment.

Police say he swerved across three lanes of traffic on I-64 back in June, and hit 68-year-old Wanda Beach's truck. Beach, who is from Pulaski County, died.

A Lexington Police detective testified in court on Friday about the night of the accident.

"One witness even went as far as to advise us that she was on the phone with the police department trying to call in. She was calling in because he was tailgating her, passed her at what she believed to be a high rate of speed, and she was calling to report that driving behavior," Sgt. Ronald Keaton of the Lexington Police Department testified.

According to police, the suspect fled from the scene of the crash and was found hiding in a barn.

Police suspect alcohol was a factor.
