The Fayette County Health Department announced that they are cutting several positions.
25 employees will be laid off due to budget cuts. Officials with the health department say patients might feel the effects these layoffs because the clinics will have to change the services they provide.
"Last time the average person in Lexington couldn't tell. This time people who use our clinics are going to be asked to go to another clinic site. There will be a difference," Commissioner of Health Dr. Rice Leach says.
The Health Department budget is being cut by two million dollars--from $16 million to $14 million.
The new budget will take effect July 1.
The commissioner says the laid off employees will get at least a fifteen day notice, and also counseling to help with resumé building and starting up a job search.
