Arrest made in Lexington apartment fire

UPDATED: Lexington Police arrested Anthony D. Moore, 22, this afternoon and charged him with one count of 1st Degree Arson, and three counts of Wanton Endangerment.

Lexington fire investigators say Moore, who was recently evicted from the apartment complex on Kalmia Avenue started the fire in his vacant unit.

No one was hurt in the fire, but some people are not being allowed to stay in their apartments for now while investigators deal with the cleanup. The apartment building in mostly home to UK students.

Fire crews say they were called to the building around 9:00am for a report of smoke coming out of a rear unit. It didn't take long for firefighters to get it under control. "It all turned out pretty well. The smoke alarms went off and notified everybody. Like I said, they were able to self rescue themselves, said Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz.

Up to 14 residents were in the building at the time of the fire. A cause remains under investigation.

Moore is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center. A spokeswoman for Lexington Police tells NEWSFIRST Moore is also a suspect in at least two other crimes in the city.
