KBC issues urgent need for negative blood types

Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is still urging blood donors with negative blood types to donate soon.
“Although we’ve had a good turnout in the past couple of days and we appreciate those donors, we aren’t out of the woods yet,” said KBC President and CEO Bill Reed. “There were more transfusions of O negative blood in July than in the past two years, and this has created quite a need, especially for O negative donors.”
O negative donors are considered universal donors. Only about seven percent of the population is O negative but since it can be given to people of all blood types, it is the type doctors in trauma centers and emergency rooms reach for most often.
To find a donation location or to make an appointment to give blood, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.
