Kentucky goes red in celebration of national Wear Red Day

The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement is asking all women in Kentucky to help America Go Red this year! As we look toward the 10th Annual National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 1st, it’s more important than ever for women to stand side-by-side to end heart disease.

Currently some eight million women in the U.S. are living with heart disease, yet only one in six women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat. In fact, 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.

To celebrate the day, Kentucky businesses and attractions such as Churchill Downs, Rupp Arena, the Belle of Louisville, 21C Hotel and many others will be staging events and lighting ceremonies throughout the day. For more details on these events, call 502-371-6040.

Be the Difference
For 10 years, women have been fighting heart disease individually and together as part of the Go Red For Women movement. More than 627,000 women’s lives have been saved, but the fight is far from over. Heart disease is still women’s No. 1 killer – it affects more women than men and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. But the strength of mothers, sisters, daughters and friends fighting side by side is more powerful than any killer. It’s time to shout louder, stand stronger and demand change. Together, we can end heart disease. Women Go Red.

The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement is nationally sponsored by Macy’s and Merck & Co., Inc. For more information on National Wear Red Day or the Go Red For Women movement, visit GoRedForWomen.org.
