LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) The bookkeeper at a Lexington business faces charges after police say she stole more than $100,000 from her employer.

For years, Teresa Beckham was one of the handfuls of employees at Stephen Prater Builders on Allendale Drive.

Beckham was working as the business' bookkeeper and was responsible for keeping the finances in check.

She was frequently given blank checks by the owner, Stephen Prater, to pay business expenses but police say instead she was using those company checks to pay for her personal expenses.

Police say the business owner reported Beckham after finding the company's checks had been used for several $10,000 payments that Beckham had allegedly made to American Express over the past two years.

He says he signed multiple checks for her to use but never authorized her to pay personal bills.

On Wednesday, police caught up with Beckham at her place of work and arrested her.

So far, Lexington Police say they've found checks Beckham wrote for personal bills in excess of $100,000 but they expect the total to be much higher.

Police say they've subpoenaed Beckham's credit card records to see if more money was stolen from the company.
