LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The owner of a Lexington daycare is frustrated because he says a teenager keeps vandalizing his business.
The owner of Big Blue Bird Early Childhood Center on Eastland Parkway says he's tired of cleaning up all the damage. He released the surveillance to us on Monday evening.
This Lexington daycare recently updated their security system.
"It's been a good investment, and we will continue to use it," said Daniel Lowe, the owner of Big Blue Bird Early Childhood Center.
But already their new equipment has been damaged at Big Blue Bird Early Childhood Center.
"It has gotten worse in the last six months," said Lowe.
The daycare is now more than $6,000 because of a vandal. Four of the cameras were destroyed and may be out of service now, but before they were damaged, they caught the suspect on tape, both Friday and Saturday on three different occasions.
"He was grabbing and tearing them off the wall. Opening them up and taking cameras out of them," said Lowe.
The owner tells us it's a 14-year-old boy, who seemingly always carries a fishing pole with him. Surveillance video shows him doing various things, like snooping around, climbing on buses, and destroying cameras.
The owner says he came face to face with the teenager on the daycare's playground. And that's when he told the young man that he was trespassing.
"He just told he was not blank trespassing, and I said, 'Yes, you are trespassing' then he tried to slam a gate on me at that point," said Lowe.
A copy of the criminal complaint filed Monday evening by the owner shows that he is accusing this teenager of four counts of criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking over $500 because two of the four cameras are missing.
"We do not take it lightly anytime that anyone does damage to our property," said Lowe.
So far, no charges have been filed against the teenager, only the criminal complaint by the owner.
