LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police charged a man with first degree criminal abuse and tampering with physical evidence for injuries caused to a baby.
A police spokeswoman tells WKYT that it wasn't until officers were called to Kentucky Children's Hospital, that they discovered the badly injured 6-month old baby.
According to police, the alleged abuse happened while Shawn Gregory Greene Jr. was babysitting his girlfriend's children. One was a six-month old boy, and the other, a two-year old girl. Police say the suspected abuse happened within a 45 minute window, while their mother was out.
Police say Greene tried to hide the infant's injury by not telling the mother right away, and instead putting the baby down for a nap. When the mother later woke the infant, and saw the scrapes and bruises, she drove the child to a hospital. The boy was later transferred to Kentucky Children's Hospital, because doctors discovered a skull fracture. There's no word on the infant's current condition.
Greene's grandfather told WKYT on the phone that his grandson loved the two kids and would never do anything to intentionally hurt them.
Greene is due in court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment.
