Lexington woman attacked by pit bull

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A dog bite landed a woman in the hospital.

The incident happened on Kees Road Thursday afternoon. Witnesses tell us the dog had been running loose before biting the woman.

Lexington Police tell us a woman is recovering in the hospital after she was attacked and bitten by a pit bull.

It happened just across the street from her home.

A neighbor living across the street tried to get rid of the roaming pit bull as soon as she saw it, calling animal control.

She says the dog was right outside her home sniffing her garbage.

In the meanwhile, an animal control officer says a woman living across the street was walking on the sidewalk with a bowl of food.

The witness says she saw the pit bull latch onto the women's arm so she ran out of her home. She grabbed the victim and pulled her inside.

Animal control says as soon as the woman let go of the food, that's all the dog cared about.

Blood is now on the ground where the attack happened.

Animal control officers tell us the pit bull will be in quarantine for 10 days, which is protocol.

Both Lexington Police and animal control officials are still looking into this incident.

Police tell us the woman had to get stitches on her arm, but we don't know much else about her injuries at this time.
