William Bailey, a UK HealthCare Lab Technician and avid marathon runner, will start an epic journey on Saturday, February 18 across 48 states to prove that the Lexington community is healthy and active.

His 196-day run will begin in Venice Beach, California where he will proceed to pass through the 48 contiguous states. His goal is to run 38 miles every day, breaking it in half between morning and evening runs.

Bailey is expected to run through Lexington sometime in early August, and he will complete his run in Kittery, Maine on September 11, 2012.

Bailey was shocked to learn that Lexington was listed as the most sedentary city in America. "I don't think that's a very fair statement," said Bailey. "In my experience there are very active people living here, and that's one of my favorite things about the Lexington community."

After deciding to make the journey, Bailey knew that he couldn't just run for himself.

Experiencing first hand in his job the dangers of cardiovascular disease, he decided to raise money for the Lexington Chapter of the American Heart Association and the Central Kentucky Heart Walk.

"We are very pleased to have a fine, young man like Will support our mission and raise awareness that physical activity is crucial for maintaining a healthy heart," said Joey Maggard, Executive Director for the American Heart Association.

Through the generosity of Subway Restaurants of central and eastern Kentucky, Bailey will have all of his meals covered during his journey. Followers of Bailey can monitor his progress through a SPOT
Satellite GPS tracking system.

"The Central and Eastern Kentucky SUBWAY franchisees are excited to support Will in his healthy active lifestyle and they look forward to helping raise money for the Lexington Chapter of the American Heart Association", said Sharon Pfister, Subway account supervisor for the Asher Agency.
