Lexington church burglarized multiple times

A Lexington church hit by a thief this morning says it's been hit before. The burglary happened at Gardenside Baptist Church on Alexandria Drive.

That thief had just finished breaking into a storage garage when a landscaper working at the church spotted him leaving and took off after him.

The landscaper says he arrived at the church around eight this morning. He says when he pulled up he saw a pickup leaving the church with air conditioners and folding chairs in the back.

He followed the truck down Alexandria to Traveler Road but says the driver ran a stop sign and sped off.

Police say the thief got three air conditioners and a water heater from the garage and around twenty folding chairs that were on a trailer parked in front of the garage.

A church maintenance worker says the front door of the garage was broken and forced up. He says this is at least the eighth time in the past two years that the church has been targeted by thieves.

Police are still looking for the driver. They say he was in a black Ford Ranger. If anyone saw him leaving the area or thinks they know who he might be they are asked to call police.
