LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Some great news for drivers in Lexington! Some major changes are underway to the timing system of the lights throughout the city, especially on Man o' War and Richmond Road.
"This is something we do every year," explains Steve Cummings, with the transportation department in Lexington. "It's been about five years since we've evaluated this portion of the city and we're excited about what this is going to bring for drivers." Cummings explains that the timing will incorporate data collected throughout the years about traffic flows and congested areas.
"This process is going to take a few weeks, however, we've already seen vast improvements on Richmond road between Sigures Road and St. Margaret. Drivers say in the last three days they've noticed a significant decrease in drive time. Some even claiming their drive has been decreased by ten to twelve minutes."
We're told that timing system should be done by the end of the month. Right now they are focusing on the I-75 and Richmond Road area. "I think people are going to be very pleased with the improvements once everything is done. The population in Lexington has expanded in the past five years and the new timing system will incorporate that information."
