A woman is safe and a man is arrested after a break-in on Lakewood Drive in Lexington.

It happened around 9:30 Wednesday morning when the woman heard someone in her house. Lexington police say that John C. Patton, 36, had broken a back window in the home to get inside.

Police tell us the woman did the right thing by calling them while hiding under the bed and waiting until they arrived.

"Luckily, she took the proper steps to protect herself, called us immediately. She didn't try to confront the suspect and responding officers were able to get here quickly," says Lt. Raymond Roller, with Lexington Police.

Police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood where they caught up with their suspect, Patton shortly after he left the home. They found him on Indian Mound Road.

They say they found stolen property on him. He was arrested and is now charged with burglary and fleeing and evading. Luckily, the woman inside the home was unharmed. A man across the street watched the police scene unfold.

"We were out here raking and we saw a bunch of cop cars start to roll up one after the other. I didn't think anything of it. One rolled up with his lights on and they started sneaking around the house. Next thing you know they bust out a window, two take off running. It was like a movie," said Tyler Burke, a witness.

The woman was unharmed in the home invasion.

Stolen property was found on Patton. Police say their suspect did have outstanding warrants for violating his probation.

Some residents say there have been a few burglaries in the neighborhood recently. We asked police if Patton could be connected to any of them, but police say it is too early in the investigation to know.

Court documents show that Patton is also accused of some other burglaries in Lexington. In a 2009 incident, he is even accused of running from police before getting charged with receiving stolen property. In another case, Patton is accused of stealing $88,000 from a Lexington business.
