Man asks for directions in Lexington, ends up shot

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are interviewing witnesses about an overnight shooting that seriously injured a man and sent a bullet into a neighboring home.
It happened Tuesday, a little before midnight, on West Fifth Street.

Police say the victim was sitting in a car with three other people at West Fifth Street and Pilgrim Alley. Police tell us the group said they were in that area asking for directions. That's when police say another man walked up to his window and asked to use his cell phone. After using the phone, there was apparently some type of argument or attempted robbery of the victim. According to police, the suspect then pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots. One bullet hit the victim in the upper left portion of his chest. The car the victim was in was also struck twice by bullets, and a home on West Fifth was also hit by gun fire.

Police say the victim is at UK Hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives are now interviewing all of the witnesses from that vehicle. Police tell us the four men in the vehicle were all between 18 and 20 years old.
