Coroner releases identity of man killed in overnight crash in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County Coroner has released the name of the man killed in an overnight crash on Old Richmond Road.

Officials say the driver, Martin Rankin, 41, of Richmond, was heading outbound when he went off the road and into a ditch. They say it appears he over-corrected and hit a tree, flipping his truck. Rankin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.

Lexington Police are investigating a deadly crash.

It happened around 1am on Old Richmond Road between Walnut Hill Road and Jacks Creek Pike. Officials say the driver, 41, year old Martin Rankin of Richmond, was heading outbound when he went off the road and into a ditch. They say it appears he over-corrected and hit a tree, flipping his truck. Rankin was pronounced dead at the scene.

When Lexington firefighters responded, they saw that the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. At that point, they attempted to cut him out of the pickup truck, but the driver died at the scene.

"It appears he was not wearing a from what we can tell. That may have had a bearing on him having fatal injuries," said Lexington Fire Major C.J. Haunz.

The coroner's office tells WKYT that they are still working to contact the victim's family. They are not yet releasing his name.
