A man accused of robbing a Lexington dentist was back in court to face a judge Tuesday morning.

Police arrested 22-year-old Daniel Hale last week, just a short time after a Fayette County Health Department dentist was attacked as she arrived at work.

In court Tuesday, the arresting officer shed a little more light on what police say happened.

Investigators say Hale stabbed Doctor Candace Flener during a robbery in the Fayette County Health Department parking lot, as she was parking her van.

In the testimony Tuesday, the court learned more details of the police report.

The officer says Dr. Flener told police Hale tried to steal her purse and van. The testifying officer also says the dentist suffered stab wounds to her face, lip, and all the way to her left ear.

Police arrested Hale just a couple of miles from the health department and charged him with first degree robbery.

His attorney asked the judge to reduce the charge, citing lack of evidence.

"There was an allegation that there was a knife used, but there was no knife found at the scene or on Mr. Hale," says Hale's attorney Matt Ryan.

The judge upheld the first degree robbery charge, and Hale's bond stays the same.

The case will go to a grand jury. Hale remains in jail on a $10,000 bond.

Dr. Flener was released from the hospital later the same day of her attack. She's expected to make a full recovery.
