A man is recovering at UK Hospital after a shooting near a police station.
It happened around 3 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Centre Parkway and Appian Way in Lexington.
Police say it started as a fight between two people. One of those people pulled out a gun and shot the other man, before running away.
Several officers, just starting their shifts at the east sector station on Centre Parkway, were able to catch the suspect nearby. They say he admitted to the shooting.
"It's just crazy given that there's a police station, the school and kids are getting ready to come out of school. It really makes me wonder about this neighborhood. It's usually safe, but at this point I'm not so sure about it," said Hilda Jongwe, who lives across the street from the shooting.
Police expect the man who was shot in the shoulder to recover. The shooter's been charged with assault.
