Kelly Gonzales tells 27 NEWSFIRST that she went to the Liquor Barn in the Beaumont Shopping Centre Wednesday night with a friend and two of her children.

Gonzales says she forgot her ID and couldn't purchase the alcohol.

She says they were leaving to get the ID when she learned that her friend shoplifted.

Gonzales adds they left quickly and it wasn't until they were driving that she realized her youngest child was missing from the car seat.

"How do you leave a baby," Gonzales asks herself.

Gonzales says she grabbed her son and that her friend told her she grabbed the daughter, but it turns out that didn't happen.

"My little boy had cried for a bottle. I reached back to give him a bottle. I noticed, I said where's the baby? She said back there. I said no it's not. Where's my baby? I went back but by then it was too late. The cops were there," says Gonzales.

According to Lexington Police, it was 45 before Gonzales returned back for her 7 month old daughter, Yreli.

"With how cold it was she could have been dead, and it could have been a coroner instead of a cop. Luckily, they found her. She could have been kidnapped, and I just panicked," Gonzales says,

Gonzales admits there is no excuse for leaving the baby behind behind.

"I'm not giving an excuse. I shouldn't have relied upon anyone else. I should have double checked, but I went back as soon as I noticed she was gone."

Even though the seven month old is state custody, Gonzales is just thankful Yreli was unharmed.

"I just want to thank the person that found her," Gozales said. "Luckily, they didn't take her. And just to say thank you."

Gonzalez is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

"I'm not worried about the charge. I'm worried that she is okay, but I mean, it's not like I did it on purpose," adds Gonzales.

Gonzales is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Gonzales' other three children were also taken into custody by the state.
