Mysterious circumstances surround overnight traffic stop

It was a truck speeding through Lexington early this morning that got the attention of police. Now they are looking to see if that truck or its driver may be connected to any other crimes

Police first spotted the white pickup truck driving into Lexington on Russell Cave road around 1:30AM. They believe it was going as fast as seventy miles an hour.

When that Lexington Police officer tried to stop the truck, the driver turned off his lights and gunned it. The officer didn't chase him.

Transylvania Police saw the truck near Broadway and Third and got the driver to stop. The two men who were inside took off running and left the truck behind.

When officers searched that vehicle they say they found a bloody baseball bat and blood on the door. They say it's possible one of the men got cut while trying to break into a building before police saw them.

Police say they believe they know who the driver was and have dealt with him in the past. He has an Emergency Protective Order out against him and because of the blood in the truck they also spent the morning checking on the woman who filed it but she was fine.

That truck matched the description of the vehicle used in a robbery on Valentine's Day at a Shell gas station and police are looking to see if there was a connection there.

Lexington Police say that because the original officer didn't get close enough to identify that driver there probably won't be any charges from this mornings activities.
