October holds lots of fun for families at the Explorium!

Two travelling exhibits open Saturday, September 30, 2012. The Hunt For Treasure is an exhibit that explores the world of the pirate. Children can search for buried treasure with a metal detector, hoist a flag, crack a safe, make coin rubbings, discover the smells of a pirate, and learn about geocaching. The second exhibit is Sustainable Choices. This exhibits highlights the importance recycling, water and electric conservation, usage different types of light bulbs, carbon footprint reduction and more. Both of these exhibits are organized by NRG! exhibits. The exhibits will be on display through December 31, 2012.

Museum Go Round will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012. This free family festival will be held in Triangle Park from 10-4. Sponsored by Central Bank, Museum Go Round will feature:
Artist Alley - Meet artists under the age of 18 as they share and sell their art work.
Bubble-Mania - Explore the world of Bubbles at this interactive bubble pool
Dino -Dig- Explore the millennia with this fun Dinosaur bone hunt.
Pit of Oobleck - Meet the crazy liquid that you can run across at our very own oobleck pool!
It’s a Buggy World - Meet critters of the world at this crawly station!
Tinker-Shop - From thing-a-ma-jigs, to gadets, explore engineering parts and see what you can make!
Brick-Brack Corner - How many different things can you build with super size bricks?
Side-Walk-Chalk - Make your own side-walk chalk to take home and decorate your driveway with!
Art Smart Lab - Explore math, science, culture, and art through creativity!

Explorium Spooktacular Day Camps
October 12 & 15 8:00am-5:30pm Pre-K – 5th grade
You won’t want to miss the fun-filled day camps that we are hosting this month while school is out! Come one day or both, the thrills will be different each day! Enjoy making life-size scarecrows, learn face painting techniques, participate in mummy relays, & much more! Half days are available. Snacks will be provided; full day campers should bring their own lunch.
Half day: $20 non- members/ $18 members
BOTH Half Days: $38 non- members/ $35 members
Full Day: $50 non-members/ $45 members
BOTH Full Days: $95 non- members/ $90 members

Curiosity Club- October 6, 10 am - noon Exercise your curiosity at our brand new curiosity club, created exclusively for Explorium members! Together we will test experiments & projects the first Saturday of every month! Free for Explorium members.

October 5 & 19: Parent’s Night Out- Enjoy a night out on the town & we’ll keep the kids! Children will play in the Explorium, create crafts, enjoy snacks & have a great time! Children must be potty-trained. Call for reservations (859) 258-3253. $18 per child for non-members/ $15 per child for member.

Countdown to BOO-SEUM, week of Tuesday Oct. 23-Friday Oct. 26, BOO-SEUM Bash Saturday Oct. 27, 11am-4pm. Each day during the week, we will countdown to our annual BOO-SEUM Bash by reading spooky books, making ghoulish crafts, and playing! Don’t forget to come back Saturday for BOO-SEUM Bash where we will play with dry ice, Trick or Treat in our Homes exhibit, have a costume contest, AND see a pumpkin carve itself during our first ever Pumpkin Show!

Open Art Studio - Tuesday-Sunday 1-5
September 30-October 6: Edible Art - Get your culinary masterworks going with sugar cookie paintings! Afterwards test your culinary masterwork with a nibble or two!
October 7-13: Nature Still Lifes- Let’s create still life paintings using leaves, twigs, & other nature items!
October 14-20: Mess Free Painting- Come create an awesome painting using just a baggie, paint, & paper! Squishy fun for you, mess free for your parents!
October 21-27: Halloween Masks- Join us as we decorate masks for Halloween!
October 28-November 3: Ghosts in the Graveyard- Paint & decorate the bottom of an egg carton to create a spooky graveyard!

October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31: Moms, Dads, caregivers drop your precious ones with us and run your errands, go to the gym…or take nap! During this time, kids will play games, do crafts, enjoy the Explorium and have a good time. Children should bring a snack.

October 6: Worldwide Day of Play- In participation with Nickelodeon’s The Big Help, the Explorium is promoting health & physical activity as we play & move together!
October 7: Let’s Go Fly a Kite- Together we will make different types of kites out of paper & test them out in our wind simulating fan!
October 13: Spinning Station- Combine spiders & weaving and what do you get? The perfect faux spider web just in time to start holiday decorating!
October 14: Neon Nights- Come investigate the powers of glowing under the blacklight!
October 20: Scary-crows- Based on the classic scarecrow, this delicious activity will have you headed home licking your lips!
October 21: Autumn Rainbow- Join us to make a beautiful autumn tree using real leaves!
October 28: Fabulous Faces- Every Halloween costume needs the same accessory- a fabulous face! Make your own face paints with simple ingredients!
