LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky Utilities is reporting that a squirrel was the cause of power going out to nearly 5,500 customers Sunday morning.

The power went out to customers in the area of Harrodsburg Road, Pasadena, Beaumont and Clays Mill around 9am Sunday morning.

Police were out directing traffic while officials attempted to find the cause for the power outage.

Officials at Kentucky Utilities tell WKYT that a squirrel somehow got into the substation in that area, and caused the power to be cut to the nearly 5,500 customers.

Power was restored to customers just over an hour and a half later, around 10:40am Sunday morning.
