Officials discuss sex offender compliance checks

In a news conference this morning, federal agents discussed the results of a statewide sex offender compliance check and appealed for the public's help in finding some who may be on the run.

Operation Bluegrass Corral was the Fayette County portion of the sex offender compliance check. From December 6-7, members of several law enforcement agencies went to the listed homes of convicted sex offenders making sure they were still there. Out of over 300 offenders, six were arrested for being non-compliant and five couldn't be found. Melissa Mae Brown, Lane Weidner, Kenneth Martin, Antonio Fuentes, and Wayne Wade are now considered fugitives. U.S. Marshal Loren Carl says offenders should get used to these checks.

"We might come back next week and check them again. It's not that we've done this and we're going to quit. We're going to continue this deal. These operations are going to continue to go on and it's going to be our efforts to make sure these people are doing what they're supposed to be doing," he says.

Agents said if you see anyone on that list they're still looking for, you should contact your local law enforcement.
