It's a shocking crime - a man shot multiple times in a parking lot near a busy part of downtown Lexington. Friday night, people in that area told us it had them more alert. The victim was badly injured in the shooting off West Short Street. Police promised to step up patrols in that area.
Police are still searching for the person who shot a man several times Friday morning. It all happened in a downtown Lexington parking lot, right off West Short Street.
"He was shot in the abdomen and he was bleeding from the foot as well," explained the good Samaritan that didn't want to be identified. He told WKYT the person he helped is a husband, a dad of two, and from Georgia.
"Just an innocent guy who came out to have a good time and somebody took advantage of that situation."
People we talked with weren't letting the overnight shooting affect their Friday night plans. However, they were being a bit more cautious downtown.
"Like any place that you go to you have to be aware of where you are, aware of your surroundings, but other than that I think just do the right thing. Stay in the right places and don't veer off from the main street," said downtown diner Gary Andrews.
Police do plan to increase their presence near downtown bars Friday night because of both the shooting and the arrival of college students at the University of Kentucky.
