Police: Suspect nearly hits officer during Lexington drug deal

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is facing a long list of charges after a police chase in Lexington.

Demaris L. Pettus is in the Fayette County Detention Center. Lexington Police arrested him on Thursday night.

Pettus showed up at Nandino Boulevard and Georgetown Street. According to his arrest citation, he sold Oxycodone and Valium to a police informant. During that transaction, the officer says that Pettus threatened him and had a handgun.

When other officers approached his vehicle, they say Pettus took off in his car, nearly striking an officer. Police say he also rammed a police cruiser and led them on a chase at a high rate of speed. The chase ended when his car wrecked through a fence, causing more than $1,000 in damage.

Pettus faces multiple counts of trafficking a controlled substance, wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading police, intimidating a witness, trafficking marijuana, resisting arrest and drug paraphernalia.
