LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police tell us they have a promising lead on a suspect after a woman robbed the Transylvania University accounting office. Students said they were taken aback that someone would rob an administrative office on campus.
On the normally quiet Transylvania University campus, there was a flurry of activity.
"I'm pretty interested. It's curious," said Transylvania student Gunnar Kehrt-Reese.
Around 12:30, public safety officials said a woman went into the accounting office inside Old Morrison, implied she had a weapon, and stole a small amount of cash from a check cashing drawer, then ran right back out.
"My friend said 'Oh I just got a T-Alert that there was a robbery at Old Morrison,' and we all kind of looked at him like, 'what?'?" Kehrt-Reese said.
It's not something Transy students are used to hearing about.
"Especially for a college for them to come in. Is it a student? Is it someone around here? It's just really peculiar," Kehrt-Reese said.
Even as police search for the robber, students say they still feel safe.
"The majority of the time, the campus is really safe. You see DPS eating lunch with us at the cafe or patrolling around campus or driving around the dorms in their patrol cars," said Kehrt-Reese.
Public safety officials have said the campus is all clear now.
