Lexington police searching for robbery suspect

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are on the scene of a robbery at the Speedway on the corner of Liberty Road and New Circle.

It happened around 3:30 Saturday afternoon. Police say a man passed a note to the cashier saying no one will get hurt as long as they comply. The cashier emptied the register and gave the money to the man.

Police tells us the man is wearing a black matching track suit that zips up. They believe he is in his late 20s. He has white stripes on the sleeves of his jacket. He is wearing black gloves, a tan beanie with a bill and has scruffy facial hair.

Police say this is definitely related to the earlier robbery at another Speedway on Paris Pike.

Officers believe the suspect left on foot and headed toward Motorvation Motor Cars and the Peddlers Mall.

Police are currently using canine units to sniff out the area. However, police say the canines are unable to track the scent any further than Peddlers Mall because of all the foot traffic.

WKYT has a crew on the scene and will continue to bring you more information as it becomes available.
