Man drives himself to gas station after violent robbery

Police are now searching for the man responsible for pistol whipping a driver and trying to steal his cell phone.

Around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Lexington police say a man pulled over at 6th and Limestone to make a phone call. Police tell us another man in a gray hoodie came up, demanded cash and his cell phone, and pointed a gun in his direction.

Police say the man was able to drive himself to a nearby Speedway for help. At first look, investigators couldn't tell if someone had shot the man or just hit him with a gun. Upon further examination, police say the thief pistol-whipped the driver. First responders took him to the hospital with facial injuries to his cheek and upper lip. His condition is not known, but police say his injuries were non-life threatening.

No arrests have been made.
