Lexington Police are putting out a warning about a scam that's catching some people off guard. Police say someone has called people in Fayette County, pretending to be with the County Attorney's Office.
The caller tells the person answering the phone that they are in trouble for missing a court date for some type of offense. They're told, if they don't pay a large amount of cash, they would be arrested at work.
Police say checks on two people who called the County Attorney's Office about the phone calls shows neither had any present offenses of any kind. Police say the number the person is calling from shows up as 760-278-3027, which is a California area code.
