LEXINGTON, Ky. - (WKYT) - The Big Blue Nation has been waiting for months and after much anticipation, we finally got to see our new football coach in action.

At Commonwealth Stadium, Saturday’s Blue White game seemed more like the first home game rather than the spring game.

Around 50,000 tickets were distributed for the game and while the official fan count hasn't been released yet, it's definitely possible that there were a record number of Cats fans at the game.

“I was at so many games last year and there was a larger crowd here than last year so it was great,” said Jacob Burton, a UK fan from Adair County.

For several fans, it was the first spring game they had ever been to and many say they were impressed with the talent they saw on the field.

They’re also excited that the "Stoops Era” has begun and they can't wait to see the energy that Stoops will bring to the program.

“It was an amazing atmosphere you can tell everyone is excited about Stoops and the Stoops Era. I was glad to be part of it,” said Kathy Norman, a UK fan from Nashville.

There was a strong showing from both players and fans on Saturday and hopefully that level of excitement will continue throughout the season.

Fans also told us that Stoops said some encouraging words to the audience about the team and the upcoming season before the game.
