Salvation Army begins online kettle campaign

The Salvation Army is facing the largest funding gap they say they've ever seen locally. They hope a last minute push will help close that gap so they can continue providing services next year.

Their goal was $450,000. The majority of their operating budget comes from the yearly kettle campaign. But this year the kettles haven't been quite as full.

"This is a huge gap, we've never had $92,000 yet to raise for the kettle campaign," said Major Debra Ashcraft with The Salvation Army.

If there is a shortfall, some cuts will have to be made.

"We've got a spike in needs, so the last thing we need to do is cut services," said Ashcraft.

Those services include the shelter and food bank the organization provides. While the kettles go away on Christmas another campaign starts the day after. An on-line campaign will allow people to donate from home.
