The wreck shut down part of a busy Lexington road for hours. Wednesday night, police released new details about a crash between a school bus and a Mercedes.
The crash happened late Wednesday afternoon on Man O'War at the I-75 exit. The driver of the Mercedes, Nanci House, had to be rushed to UK Hospital.
Hospital officials say House is in fair condition.
"Initially when the fire department got here the driver of the Mercedes was in a life threatening situation and they were doing everything they could for her," explained Lexington Police Lieutenant Chris Van Brackel, "on the way to the hospital she did start breathing on her own and I've been told right now that she is stabilizing but they still have her in critical condition."
The driver of the bus, the bus monitor, and the student on board are okay.
For several hours, while accident reconstruction crews examined the scene, commuters in Hamburg and near the Polo Club neighborhood had to find other routes home.
The driver of the bus, William Gourley, has worked for Fayette County Public Schools for the last five years. School officials say he has never been involved in a wreck before Wednesday's. He did have to take a drug test, but school officials say testing is standard procedure.
