LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - An overturned semi shut down Spurr Road for most of Wednesday, rerouting traffic for several hours.
It happened to the left of The Learning Center at Linlee, off of Georgetown Road, just after 7:00 Thursday morning. Police say the truck overturned when it went around a curve and its load shifted.
The driver was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.
The truck was carrying cases of beer. Crews worked all morning to remove those cases.
Officials say once that's finished, they'll be able to lift the truck back up, clean up some spilled fuel and then reopen the road.
"The truck is on its side so what we're trying to do is more or less stabilize. To do that we're going to have to get the truck righted. But before we do that we're going to have to offload the cargo, which in this case is about 2,400 cases of beer," says Capt. Rob Larkin, Lexington Fire Department.
This accident caused some parents who were driving their kids to school to be rerouted, but it didn't cause any major traffic issues.
The road was shut down for about eight hours.
